introdution
This highly challenging project centred on the transformation of an old farmhouse, once renowned as The Cloisters, a school for young children. The property included a large rear garden situated on a steep slope and enclosed by surrounding four- to five-storey buildings. The task demanded sensitivity in order to respect the site’s history while adapting it for modern use.
design philosophy
A central courtyard was introduced to clearly define the various functions and architectural fabrics. This intervention not only created breathing space within a dense urban setting but also established a visual and spatial separation between old and new elements, reinforcing the character of the farmhouse.
design philosophy
Commissioned with a value of €6,000,000, the project represents a considered investment in adaptive reuse, ensuring that the farmhouse’s legacy continues while accommodating the needs of present-day residents and visitors alike.
The project sought to harmonise diverse uses within the site. Both the residential units and the guesthouse were carefully integrated, connected subtly through shared facilities, communal areas and underground parking. The design embodies the philosophy of marrying heritage with contemporary living in a manner that feels seamless and respectful.
